Which of the following tool enables a user to reset his/her lost admin password in a Windows system?

Active@ Password Changer is a specialized software utility designed specifically for resetting lost or forgotten passwords for local user accounts on Windows systems, including the administrator account. It operates by creating a bootable USB drive or CD/DVD that allows the user to start the system in a pre-boot environment. From there, it can directly access and modify the Security Account Manager (SAM) database file, where password hashes are stored, to clear an existing password or set a new one without needing to know the original.

A. Advanced Office Password Recovery: This tool is designed by ElcomSoft to recover passwords for Microsoft Office documents (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint), not for resetting Windows operating system account passwords.

C. Smartkey Password Recovery Bundle Standard: This is a commercial suite of various password recovery tools. While it may include a Windows password reset utility, Active@ Password Changer is a more specific and widely recognized tool for this singular purpose.

D. Passware Kit Forensic: This is a comprehensive digital forensics suite that can perform password recovery and decryption for hundreds of file types, full-disk encryption, and mobile devices. While it includes a Windows password reset feature, its primary scope is much broader, making Active@ Password Changer the more direct answer for the specific task described.

4. University Courseware: In computer forensics and system administration courses, tools are often categorized by their primary function. A dedicated password reset utility like Active@ Password Changer is typically distinguished from a full forensic suite like Passware Kit. For example, a lab exercise on "Local System Access" would feature tools specifically for that task. - Source: Based on typical curriculum structure in cybersecurity programs, e.g., as seen in course outlines from institutions like the SANS Institute or university computer science departments.
