What is the OAMP LAN interface?

The OAMP (Operations, Administration, Maintenance, and Provisioning) LAN interface on a Nokia 1830 PSS is a standard RJ-45 Ethernet port located on the equipment controller card. Its primary function is to connect the network element to a Data Communications Network (DCN) or management network. This connection requires the configuration of an IP address on the interface, which makes the node reachable for remote management activities such as configuration, performance monitoring, fault management, and software upgrades via protocols like SNMP, TL1, and SSH.

A. Cascading or interconnecting 1830 PSS shelves is performed using dedicated high-speed inter-shelf connectors (e.g., FIC-bus), not the OAMP LAN management port.

C. Client traffic interfaces are separate ports on dedicated line cards designed to carry customer service data, whereas the OAMP LAN port is strictly for management traffic.

D. While alarm information is transported over the management network via the LAN port, dedicated alarm output ports (U-ALM) with contact closures are used for connecting to external alarm systems like LEDs.

Quote: "The 1830 PSS provides a 10/100/1000BASE-T LAN interface on the EC [Equipment Controller] card for connection to the DCN." This confirms the port is for connecting to the management network (DCN).

This section includes faceplate diagrams of the equipment controller cards, clearly labeling the "LAN" port as an RJ-45 connector distinct from client ports, alarm ports (U-ALM), and shelf interconnect ports (FIC). The text describes its use for management network access.
