Documentation is an important part of shipping operations. Which of the following documents includes the pick ticket so items can be checked off as…

A shipping order is an internal warehouse document that authorizes the picking, packing, and shipment of goods to a customer. It is generated from a customer's sales order and contains all the essential details, such as item SKUs, quantities, and shipping address. This document is the direct source for creating a pick ticket (or pick list), which warehouse staff use to gather the correct items from inventory. In many warehouse management systems, the shipping order and pick ticket functionalities are integrated, with the order itself serving as the basis for checking off items during fulfillment.

A. Shipping Manifest: This is a consolidated list of all cargo on a transport vehicle, created after orders are packed. It is for the carrier, not for internal picking.

C. Bill of Lading: This is a legal contract between the shipper and the carrier. It is generated after the order is packed and ready for transport, not used for picking.

D. Dispatch List: This is a schedule that organizes multiple shipments for a specific route or time. It is a planning tool, not a document for fulfilling an individual order.

1. Bartholdi, J. J., & Hackman, S. T. (2019). Warehouse & Distribution Science. Georgia Institute of Technology. Chapter 5, "Order Picking," Section 5.1, "The process," explains that a pick list is generated from a customer order to organize the work for pickers. The shipping order is the internal representation of this customer order.

2. Murphy, P. R., & Knemeyer, A. M. (2018). Contemporary Logistics (12th ed.). Pearson. Chapter 10, "Warehousing and Distribution Center Management," describes the order picking process as being initiated by customer orders, which are then translated into a pick list for warehouse staff.

3. Frazelle, E. (2002). World-Class Warehousing and Material Handling. McGraw-Hill. Chapter 4, "Warehouse Processes: Receiving and Put-Away," distinguishes between the customer order (which becomes a shipping order) and the pick list, noting the latter is a directive for order fulfillment derived from the former.
