What organization maintains and publishes the 802.15.4 Standard?

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is the professional organization that develops, maintains, and publishes the 802 family of networking standards. The 802.15.4 standard specifically defines the physical layer (PHY) and media access control (MAC) sublayer for low-rate wireless personal area networks (LR-WPANs). This standard is the foundational communication layer upon which other protocol stacks, such as Zigbee, WirelessHART, and Thread, are built. The IEEE 802.15 Working Group is the specific committee responsible for this standard.

A. Bluetooth SIG: This organization develops and manages the Bluetooth standards, which are separate from the IEEE 802.15.4 specification.

C. IETF: The Internet Engineering Task Force focuses on higher-level Internet protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, HTTP) documented in RFCs, not PHY/MAC layer standards.

D. Zigbee Alliance: Now part of the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), this group created the Zigbee protocol, which uses IEEE 802.15.4 but does not publish the standard itself.
