What does line "A" on the floor plan represent?

In architectural and interior design drafting, line types have specific meanings. A dashed line, formally known as a "hidden line," is used to represent edges or objects that are not visible in the primary view. On a floor plan, which is a top-down view cut at approximately 4 feet (1.2m) above the finished floor, dashed lines indicate elements that are located above this cutting plane. Common examples include upper wall cabinets, ceiling soffits, beams, or the swing of a door that opens over a counter. The line labeled "A" correctly depicts an object hidden from the current view.

B. Light cove edge: While a light cove edge would be shown with a hidden line, this option is too specific. The line type itself universally represents any hidden object, not just one particular feature.

C. Pattern on the floor: Floor patterns, such as tile layouts or wood grain direction, are visible on the floor surface and are therefore drawn using solid, often lighter-weight, lines.

D. Item to be removed: Items designated for removal are shown on a separate demolition plan, not a standard construction floor plan. The line convention for demolition is distinct.
