The Salesforce mobile app navigation menu can be customized to include various items. The "Chatter" item is a composite element that bundles several features, including Feed, People, and Groups. If the "Chatter" item is already included in the "Selected Items" list for the navigation menu, its individual components, such as "Groups," are removed from the "Available Items" list. This is to prevent redundancy and keep the navigation menu clean. Therefore, the app builder cannot select "Groups" as a separate item because it is already accessible via the "Chatter" item in the menu.

A. Groups is available in the recent section of the navigation menu.

The "Recent" section is a dynamic list of recently viewed records and does not affect the configuration or availability of items in the main navigation menu setup.

B. Groups is included in the Smart Search items but unavailable on the navigation menu.

Smart Search Items are configured separately to define which objects appear in global search results. This setting is independent of the navigation menu configuration.

C. Groups is unavailable in the selected list for the navigation menu.

This statement describes the symptom of the problem (it's not available to be selected) rather than providing the underlying cause for its unavailability.

1. Salesforce Help, "Navigation Menu Items for the Salesforce Mobile App": This document lists the items that can be added to the mobile navigation menu. It explicitly states, "Chatter (includes Feed, People, Groups, and Files)." This confirms that "Chatter" is a bundled item.

2. Salesforce Help, "Customize the Salesforce Mobile App Navigation Menu": This guide details the process of adding and removing items. The behavior described in the question is a direct consequence of how bundled items like "Chatter" are handled in the navigation setup UI to avoid duplicate entries. If "Chatter" is in the "Selected" list, its individual components will not appear in the "Available" list.
