Universal Containers would like to embed a chart of all related Opportunities, by stage, on the Account detail page. Which type of report should the…

To embed a chart on a record's detail page, the source report must contain a chart. Salesforce requires reports to have at least one grouping to generate a chart. A summary report allows for grouping rows of data, which is necessary to group Opportunities "by stage". The report must be built on the Opportunity object to display Opportunity data. When this report chart is added to the Account page layout, it is automatically filtered to show data only for the Opportunities related to the specific Account record being viewed.

B. A summary report on the Account object: This is incorrect because a report based on the Account object cannot display and group the child Opportunity records by their stage.

C. A tabular report on the Account object: This is incorrect because tabular reports are simple lists of data and cannot be used to create charts. The object is also incorrect.

D. A tabular report on the Opportunity object: This is incorrect because tabular reports do not support groupings and therefore cannot be used as a source for a report chart.

1. Salesforce Help Documentation, "Add a Report Chart to a Page Layout": This document explicitly states the requirements for embedding a chart. It specifies, "The source report for a page layout chart must be a summary or matrix report. Tabular and joined reports aren't supported." This directly invalidates options C and D.

2. Salesforce Help Documentation, "Filter a Report Chart on a Record Page by the Page's Record": This guide explains the automatic filtering mechanism: "When you embed a report chart in a record page... the chart is conveniently filtered to show data relevant to the record you're looking at." This confirms that a report on the Opportunity object will be correctly filtered when placed on the Account page.

3. Salesforce Help Documentation, "Report Formats: Tabular, Summary, Matrix, and Joined": This resource defines the different report types. It clarifies that Summary reports "let you group rows of data, view subtotals, and create charts." This confirms that a summary report is the correct format for creating a chart based on a grouping like "Stage".
