What is the key difference between a Standard Warehouse and a Multi-cluster Warehouse?

The primary distinction between a Standard and a Multi-cluster Warehouse lies in concurrency and scaling. A Standard Warehouse operates on a single cluster of compute resources. In contrast, a Multi-cluster Warehouse can dynamically scale its compute resources by adding or removing clusters of the same size in response to the query load. This horizontal scaling allows it to handle fluctuating and high-concurrency workloads without queuing, which is a key benefit over the single-cluster Standard Warehouse.

B. Standard Warehouses are general-purpose and can execute any SQL operation, including queries, DML, and data loading, not just data loading.

C. Both Standard and Multi-cluster Warehouses support and benefit from the auto-suspend feature to conserve credits during periods of inactivity.

D. Performance for a single complex query is determined by warehouse size (e.g., Medium vs. Large), not whether it is Standard or Multi-cluster.
