In and around the data center, who is responsible for safety?

In any modern, safety-conscious workplace, including a data center, safety is the shared responsibility of all staff. While specific roles like a safety manager or facilities manager have formal accountability for implementing and overseeing safety policies, creating a truly safe environment requires the active participation of everyone. Each employee is responsible for following safety procedures, being aware of their surroundings, reporting hazards, and looking out for the well-being of their colleagues. This principle of collective responsibility is the cornerstone of an effective safety culture and is mandated by occupational health and safety regulations worldwide.

A. The safety manager is accountable for the safety program's design and oversight, but cannot be solely responsible for every individual's actions and the environment's real-time status.

B. The facilities manager is responsible for the physical plant's safety but not for the behavior or personal safety practices of all personnel within it.

D. The managing director holds ultimate legal and corporate accountability for safety but delegates the operational responsibility throughout the organization.
