Which feature is enabled after adding a master server to the Trusted Master Servers tab?

Adding a master server to the "Trusted Master Servers" list, referred to as adding a "Remote Cluster" in Cohesity, establishes a secure trust relationship between two Cohesity clusters. This is a mandatory prerequisite for enabling Targeted Auto Image Replication (AIR). Once the trust is established, the source cluster can securely authenticate and send its protected object snapshots to the designated target (trusted) cluster. This feature is fundamental for disaster recovery strategies, allowing for the replication of backups to a secondary site. The "targeted" aspect refers to directing the replication to a specific, pre-configured, and trusted destination cluster.

A. backup of clients in other master server domains: A Cohesity cluster backs up sources registered directly to it. Establishing trust is for replication, not for backing up clients managed by another cluster.

B. remote console to another master server: While inter-cluster management might require trust, the primary feature enabled by adding a remote cluster for data protection is replication, not remote console access.

D. remote catalog backups: Catalog information is inherently part of the replicated snapshots in AIR, but AIR itself is the overarching feature for replicating the backup data images, which this configuration enables.

1. Cohesity DataPlatform Administration Guide: In the section on "Data Replication

" the guide specifies that to configure replication

you must first add the target cluster as a remote cluster on the source. This action establishes the necessary trust. The guide states

"After a remote cluster is added

you can select it as a replication target in a Protection Policy." This directly links the trust establishment with the ability to perform replication (AIR). (Refer to sections on "Setting Up Replication Between Clusters" or "Adding a Remote Cluster").

2. Cohesity Online Help Documentation: The topic "Replicate to a Remote Cluster" details the workflow for setting up replication. Step 1 is consistently "Add the target Cohesity cluster as a remote cluster on the source Cohesity cluster." This step is explicitly for the purpose of making the target available for selection within a protection policy's replication settings

which is the mechanism for Auto Image Replication. (Search for "Add a Remote Cluster as a Replication Target" in the official Cohesity technical documentation portal).
