Which of the following are often considered the success factors for a project? Select TWO

Well-defined objectives and requirements (C) are paramount as they establish the project's purpose and define what constitutes a successful outcome. This clarity prevents scope creep and ensures all stakeholders have a shared understanding of the end goal. A well-planned project (B) provides the essential roadmap, detailing the scope, schedule, resources, and risk management strategies needed to achieve those objectives efficiently. Together, these two factors form the foundation for project control and successful delivery. Without a clear goal and a coherent plan to reach it, a project is highly likely to fail, regardless of other factors.

A. A large budget does not guarantee success. Projects can fail due to poor planning or unclear goals, leading to wasted resources and budget overruns.

D. While important, stakeholder management is a component of a good plan. Clear objectives and a comprehensive plan are more fundamental prerequisites for project success.

This foundational study identifies a "Project Mission" (clear, well-defined goals and general directions) and "Top Management Support" (which is intrinsically linked to planning and resource allocation) as the top two critical success factors during the project's conceptual phase.

Section 2.2.2, "Project Management Principles," emphasizes the importance of a "focus on value" which is derived from clear objectives. The principle of "tailoring based on context" underscores the need for deliberate and thorough planning to suit the specific project.

Chapter 1, "Projects in Contemporary Organizations," consistently highlights that project success is primarily judged against its objectives (scope, cost, time). The text stresses that "a well-defined project plan is a necessary prerequisite for a successful project" (paraphrased from discussions on project planning).
