Which is a key component of the Evaluate and Select process?

The 'Evaluate and Select' process is a distinct phase within the Management of Value (MoV) methodology. Its primary purpose is to systematically assess the ideas generated in the preceding creative phase. This involves applying predefined criteria, such as contribution to value, feasibility, and risk, to filter the long list of ideas. The culminating and most critical component of this process is the selection of the most promising ideas that will be developed into formal Value Improving Proposals. Therefore, 'Idea selection' is the core output and a key component of this process.

A. Initial briefing meeting: This is a preparatory activity that occurs during the 'Plan the MoV Study' phase to align stakeholders and set objectives.

B. Team selection: This is part of the initial setup and planning for the MoV study, completed before the evaluation of ideas commences.

C. Resource analysis: This is an input or a criterion used during the evaluation of ideas, rather than being a core component of the process itself.

Section 5.6, 'Evaluate and Select': This section details the process, stating its purpose is to "select the ideas with the most potential to improve value for further development." The key activities described are grouping, evaluating, and ultimately selecting ideas. This directly supports 'Idea selection' as the central component. (p. 47).

Section 5.2, 'Plan the MoV Study': This section describes the activities of preparing for the study, which include selecting the team and conducting briefing meetings, confirming that options A and B are part of an earlier phase. (pp. 38-40).
