Which Avaya Aura 10.1.x product can provide the fileserver functionality previously provided by Utility Services?

In Avaya Aura 10.1.x, Avaya Aura Device Services (AADS) provides the centralized fileserver and device management functionality previously handled by Utility Services. AADS is responsible for serving firmware files, settings files (like 46xxsettings.txt), and providing dynamic configuration services to Avaya endpoints, including J-Series phones and Avaya Workplace Clients. This consolidates device provisioning and management into a single, scalable platform, replacing the legacy TFTP/HTTP server function of the deprecated Utility Services.

A. Avaya Aura Media Server (AAMS): This component is responsible for media processing, such as conferencing, transcoding, and media resource management. It does not serve endpoint firmware or configuration files.

B. Avaya Aura Web Gateway (AAWG): This server acts as a gateway for web-based clients (WebRTC) to access Aura services. Its primary role is signaling and media proxy, not device file provisioning.

C. Avaya Breeze: This is an application development platform for creating and deploying custom communication-enabled applications (Snap-ins). It is not an infrastructure component for device management.

1. Avaya Aura® Device Services Overview and Implementation, Release 8.1, (December 2020), Page 8, "Chapter 2: Solution overview".

The document states, "Avaya Aura® Device Services provides a single point of interface for managing Avaya devices... It provides the following services: ... File access service for endpoints to download firmware files, view files, and other types of files." This directly maps to the fileserver functionality of the former Utility Services.

2. Avaya Aura® Solution Description, Release 10.1, (FP2 June 2023), Page 27, "Avaya Aura Device Services".

This guide describes AADS as the component for "centralized management of Avaya endpoints." It details its role in providing configuration and firmware files, confirming it as the successor to Utility Services for these tasks.

3. Administering Avaya Aura® Communication Manager, Release 8.1, (November 2019), Page 711, "Chapter: Administering IP telephones".

While for an earlier version, this document details the transition of file server responsibilities. It states, "You can use an HTTP or HTTPS server to download the upgrade and settings files... Avaya recommends using Avaya Aura® Device Services as the file server." This recommendation is standard practice in subsequent releases like 10.1.x.
