What is the name of the feature that allows NetBackup to use a single storage server for multiple media servers or clients?

The question asks for the feature that allows multiple NetBackup media servers to use a single storage server. In the context of a Cohesity cluster acting as the storage server, the Universal Shares feature provides this capability. Universal Shares present Cohesity storage as a standard Network File System (NFS) or Server Message Block (SMB) share. Multiple NetBackup media servers can mount this single, centralized share. Within NetBackup, this share is then typically configured as an AdvancedDisk Storage Pool, making the unified Cohesity storage available to all participating media servers for backup and recovery operations.

B. Shared Storage: This is a generic architectural term describing the outcome, not a specific, named feature from Cohesity or Veritas.

C. Storage Pools: This is a configuration object within NetBackup used to group and manage storage units, not the underlying Cohesity feature that provides the storage itself.

D. Storage Groups: This is not a standard term for this functionality in either the Cohesity or NetBackup platforms.

Section: "Cohesity as a Target for NetBackup". This document explicitly states: "Cohesity can be a target for NetBackup in two ways: ... As a network-attached storage (NAS) target through standard network file system (NFS) and server message block (SMB) protocols." Universal Shares is the Cohesity feature that provides this NAS capability.

2. Cohesity Tech Docs: About Views

Section: "Views". The documentation defines the underlying technology for Universal Shares: "A Cohesity View provides an NFS and SMB share of a Storage Domain on a Cohesity Cluster... External clients can connect to a View to store and access files."

Chapter 1

Section: "About AdvancedDisk storage and disk pools". The guide explains: "You can configure multiple media servers to share access to the disk pool volumes. The shared disk can be on a network-attached storage (NAS) device..." This confirms how NetBackup utilizes the shared storage provided by features like Cohesity Universal Shares.
