Which port is used by Smart Meter?

Cohesity Smart Meter is a telemetry service that securely uploads cluster statistics and health information to the Cohesity support portal. This communication is essential for proactive monitoring, wellness checks, and support case automation. To ensure the confidentiality and integrity of this data in transit, the service uses the standard secure web protocol, HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure), which operates over TCP port 443. This port must be open for outbound traffic from the Cohesity cluster to Cohesity's cloud services.

A. 22: This port is used for Secure Shell (SSH) access, which provides secure command-line administration, not for the Smart Meter telemetry service.

C. 1556: This port is not used by the Cohesity Smart Meter service. It is commonly associated with other enterprise software like Veritas NetBackup.

D. 21: This port is used for the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) control channel, which is an insecure protocol and is not used for transmitting sensitive telemetry data.

"Ports Reference": Under the section "External Connectivity to Cohesity Support

" the documentation specifies that for services including Smart Meter (telemetry)

Call Home

and remote support

the Cohesity cluster must be able to initiate outbound connections to Cohesity cloud endpoints (e.g.

nexus-virginia.cohesity.com) on TCP Port 443 (HTTPS). (Accessed from the official Cohesity documentation

specific to DataPlatform and Data Cloud versions).

2. Cohesity Security and Hardening Guide: This guide details the security architecture of the Cohesity platform. In the section on external communication

it reiterates that all support-related communications

including telemetry from Smart Meter

are encrypted and transmitted over HTTPS (port 443) to ensure data security. (Accessed from the official Cohesity documentation portal).
