How is the software update package uploaded to an HCP S10?

The standard procedure for updating the software on a Hitachi Content Platform (HCP) S10 node requires the administrator to first transfer the software update package to the node. This file transfer is performed using a Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) client. The package must be uploaded to a specific directory, /data/upgrade, on the S10 node. Once the package is in place, the administrator then uses an SSH client to log in and initiate the update process from the command line. The Management Console and BMC are not used for the file upload step.

A. using BMC: The Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) is used for out-of-band hardware management (e.g., power cycling, console access), not for uploading software update packages.

C. using an SSH connection: While SFTP operates over the SSH protocol, the specific action of transferring the file is done using an SFTP client, not just a general SSH command-line session.

D. using the Management Console: The S Series Management Console is used for monitoring and configuration but does not have a feature to upload the software update package directly.

1. Hitachi Content Platform S Series Node Administration Guide (MK-92HCP057-12), Chapter 5: Maintaining an S Series node, Section: "Updating S Series node software", Page 60. The guide explicitly states: "Use an SFTP client to upload the software update package to the /data/upgrade directory on the S Series node."

2. Hitachi Vantara - Hitachi Content Platform (HCP) S Series Administration (TCI2751) Courseware, Module: "HCP S Series Node Maintenance". This training material details the update procedure, specifying the use of an SFTP client (like WinSCP) to upload the update tarball to the /data/upgrade directory before initiating the update via an SSH session.
