Any product that accurately discovers software installations on computers in an environment can be used as the source for a Software Installation…

The ServiceNow Software Asset Management (SAM) application is designed to be flexible regarding its data sources. While ServiceNow Discovery is a native and tightly integrated option, the platform can ingest software installation data from a wide variety of third-party discovery tools. This is accomplished through mechanisms such as pre-built Service Graph connectors (e.g., for Microsoft SCCM, Jamf, Intune), custom integrations using Import Sets and Transform Maps, or file-based imports. As long as the external tool can provide accurate data, it can be mapped to the appropriate ServiceNow tables, primarily the Software Installation [cmdbsamswinstall] table, to be used for normalization and reconciliation processes.

The alternative, "False," is incorrect because it would imply that ServiceNow SAM is a closed system that can only utilize data from its own native discovery tool. This is contrary to the platform's design and documented capabilities, which explicitly support leveraging existing investments in other discovery solutions to populate the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) and provide data for SAM.

This data can be found using Discovery or imported from another discovery tool, such as Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)."

3. ServiceNow Product Documentation - Service Graph connector for Microsoft SCCM: "Use the Service Graph connector for Microsoft SCCM to import data from the Microsoft SCCM database into your ServiceNow instance. You can import computer identities, hardware, software, and usage data." The documentation further details that software installation data is a key component of this import.
