What defines a Cloud Data Centre compared to a traditional data centre?

A Cloud Data Centre is fundamentally defined by its extensive use of virtualization to abstract computing resources from the physical hardware. This abstraction enables the on-demand, self-service provisioning, and rapid elasticity that characterize cloud services. Unlike traditional data centres, which often rely on manual processes and dedicated physical hardware for specific applications, cloud data centres are architected for agility, resource pooling, and automated management. This software-defined infrastructure is the key differentiator that allows for efficient, scalable, and flexible resource allocation.

A. Both traditional and cloud data centres are physically isolated from users for security and operational reasons; this is not a differentiator.

B. Heavy reliance on manual provisioning is a characteristic of traditional data centres, which cloud models are designed to overcome through automation.

D. The use of proprietary versus open-standard networks is an implementation choice, not a defining characteristic of a cloud data centre.
