What is the role of a busbar system in a data centre?

A busbar system (or busway) is an electrical distribution method that uses a set of solid conductors, typically copper or aluminum bars, to carry and distribute large amounts of electrical current. In a data center, its primary role is to efficiently transport high-current power from the main electrical switchgear or UPS output to power distribution units (PDUs) or directly to server rack tap-off boxes. It serves as a high-capacity, low-impedance alternative to traditional large-gauge cabling for bulk power distribution.

A. Data transmission between servers is handled by network cables (e.g., fiber optic, twisted pair), not the electrical power system.

B. Mechanical cooling is provided by systems like computer room air conditioners (CRACs) or air handlers (CRAHs), not busbars.

D. Network traffic management is a function of network switches, routers, and software, completely separate from power distribution.
